Introduction: Workplace mental health has become a major occupational health concern, particularly in high-demand industries such as logistics, where employees are exposed to heavy workloads, prolonged working hours, operational pressures, and rapidly changing work environments. Although workplace mental health policies have been established in the Philippines, their implementation remains inconsistent, limiting employees' access to structured psychological support and mental health promotion initiatives.
Aim: This study evaluated a nurse-led workplace mental health program among employees in a private logistics company in the Philippines by examining changes in employees’ mental well-being and workplace stress before and after participation in a nurse-led workplace mental health program.
Methods: A one-group pre-test-post-test practice-based evaluation was conducted among 105 employees of a private logistics company in the Philippines. Mental well-being and workplace stress were measured before and after the intervention using the World Health Organization 5 Well-Being Index and the Workplace Stress Scale. The nurse-led intervention included mental health screening, psychoeducational toolkit distribution, workplace mental health awareness activities, individualized counselling, referral services, and post-intervention program evaluation. Descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test were used to analyze changes in mental well-being and workplace stress.
Results: Following implementation of the program, participants demonstrated statistically significant improvements in mental well-being (Z = −8.875, p < .001) and significant reductions in workplace stress (Z = −8.845, p < .001). Participants also reported favorable evaluations regarding the clarity and relevance of the workplace mental health program.
Conclusion: The nurse-led workplace mental health program was associated with improved mental well-being, reduced workplace stress, and positive participant evaluations. High participant retention, with all 105 employees completing both pre- and post-intervention assessments, further supports the feasibility and acceptability of the program. These findings strengthen the evidence base for integrating structured nurse-led workplace mental health initiatives into occupational health services to promote employee well-being and healthier workplace environments. Future controlled studies are recommended to establish the long-term effectiveness, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness of workplace mental health interventions.
